Betula ChairApical Reform
The fluid form of the Betula was derived from a functional posture, abstract form of the hand holding water and the idea of continuity of the lines. The technique of layering is one of the key factors that adds to the aura of the chair and further beautifies the form. Smooth flowing lines run along the form to give the impression of giving rise to a cantilevered, sculptured structure that is also pleasing to the eyes.Concealed within the simple form of the chair is the meticulously resolved stability and comfort. The technique and the assembly involve an understanding of the overall form and the material used. Precision in alignment was one of the most crucial factors involved in the entire process. For this chair we used Birch Ply as it was part of an exploration that we have been carrying out with this material. The high quality of the birch ply Articulates all the edges as they are left exposed to enhance the transformations of the lines. The subtle tone if the ply renders a strong and subtle aesthetics of the chair.
